The server

How Zero Grief works

A complete Rust server, with gathering, building, monuments and big fights. Only one thing is gone: the ability to harm other players. In its place, much livelier NPCs and events built for PvE.

Full PvE

Not a rule: an impossibility

On most PvE servers, “no raiding” is a written rule that moderators enforce after the fact. Here, the server itself prevents any action against a player from another group. There is nothing to report, because nothing can happen.

You run into a player armed to the teeth

He can’t do anything to you: his bullets, his explosives and even his vehicle can’t hurt you. You can travel together, or each go your own way.

You kill a scientist at the far end of a monument

The body is reserved for your group. Nobody can come and loot it in your place.

You log off in the middle of your base

Your sleeping body can’t be touched, and neither can your base. When you come back, everything is exactly as you left it.

You die fighting a convoy

Your weapon and your backpack stay on your body, reserved for your group. Type /death to find it.

Someone wants to build right next to your base

Impossible: bases of different groups can’t be side by side.

A helicopter falls into a neighbor’s base

Its crates stay with the group that shot it down, even when they land at someone else’s place.

Progression

Fast, but not handed to you

Everything you gather gives five times more, but nothing is free: blueprints are found, scrap is earned, monuments are cleared.

  • x5 gatherTrees, rocks, animals, crops, quarries and oil barrels.
  • x10 stacksExcept weapons, which stay one per slot.
  • Instant craftingNo more waiting in front of your inventory.
  • Faster smeltingMuch faster furnaces and refinery.
  • Always new blueprintsA blueprint you find is always one your team doesn’t know yet. Learned blueprints are shared with your team automatically.
  • Workbench across your whole baseIts level counts everywhere in your building.
All the differences from vanilla
  • NPCs that fightThey move around, chase you out of monuments and take cover.
  • Populated monumentsEvery big place has its own inhabitants, who come back after a while.
  • Dangerous roadsPatrols, ambushes and nakeds lie in wait for travelers.
  • Unique eventsHelicopter crashes, guarded crates, armored convoys, defense positions, PvE raid bases.
  • But never at homeIn your base, no NPC can aim at you (unless you shoot at it from home), and no event lands on it.
All about the NPCs

The danger

It comes from the AI, not from other players

Without PvP, the server needed opponents worthy of the name. Its NPCs were reworked to give real fights, with varied skill levels and events that take teamwork.

The rhythm

One wipe a month

The server starts from scratch once a month, on the first Thursday, together with the official game update. Between two wipes, you have time to build, progress and enjoy your base. Store purchases are kept from one wipe to the next.

Monthly wipe

Map, bases and blueprints are reset every month.

Regular events

Crashes, convoys and guarded crates throughout the day.

Raid bases all the time

There are always PvE bases to raid on the map.
